Ban octopus farming petition launch

On 28 July 2026, Animalia Law Executive Director Bianka Atlas presented on The Global Picture of Octopus Farming at the Animals Aotearoa event to launch the “Ban Octopus Farming” petition. The petition calls on the New Zealand Government to prohibit octopus farming in New Zealand - including breeding, raising, and experimentation on cephalapods in captivity for the purpose of aquaculture - and importation of farmed cephalopod products. With our Executive Director as the petitioner, Animalia Law is proud to be working with Animals Aotearoa to see a pre-emptive ban on octopus farming implemented in New Zealand.
